Description
DescriptionSalary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Employees perform duties involved in the administration of academic, administrative, and/or other programs. Responsible for the program, policy interpretation, budget preparation, application, and planning program content. Working under administrative supervision from a designated senior administrator.
Examples of Duties
1. Program Development and Evaluation:
• Plan, implement and evaluate of theory and evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs and services based on student/campus needs. Stays current on national health behavior trends and research. Generate input from constituency groups and key stakeholders.
• Develop, design, and implement social, educational interventions and prevention programs, media events, educational workshops and training activities to meet the needs of the university community
• Supervise the development of programs and activities which become part of university community program efforts
• Assist with developing strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for health promotion. Maximize persistence and retention rates of SIUC student through programming that addresses academic impediments.
• Develop and coordinate workshops and social events which involve students in preventive health education and healthy alternative programming violence prevention and healthy relationships, drug and alcohol updates, special screening clinics, smoking cessation programs, stress reduction, nutrition awareness and weight management, birth control options and pregnancy counseling, HIV and AIDS counseling, sexuality awareness information, alcohol and drug abuse information, individual and group counseling, safety and medical self care
• Assess achievement of program objectives. Collect, analyze and interpret results for health promotion programs and workshops. Summarize assessment results and develop data reports on outreach efforts.
2. Collaboration:
• Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students.
• Serve as a liaison to regional, national, and local organizations concerned with health-related issues and programs.
• Public Relations based upon research data; design and supervise extensive promotional approaches and media campaigns including literature dissemination, newspaper ads, articles, columns, TV/radio interviews, community presentations, brochures, display windows and tables. Respond to health related items in the news and press.
• Participate in campus, community, regional, state and national committees as designated
• Participate in research and professional writing, publications and/or presentations. Develop handbooks, manuals, curriculum materials, educational brochures, self-care resources, and advertising which fulfill student needs and concerns. Provide presentations to classrooms, residence halls, campus groups and community organizations in all areas of wellness. Develop patient education materials for use by patents and clients of the SHS. Develop program brochures and information to help users access services and educate users, the campus community and parents on the scope of services.
3. Supervision and Leadership:
Assist in determining staffing needs. Hire, train, manage, supervise and evaluate professional, support and/or student staff. • Supervise, train and evaluate Wellness Center GA and Interns.
• Assist in directing the undergraduate practicum program.
• Participate in campus, community, regional, state and national committees as designated to review policies and procedures that impact students; health and academic success
4. Health Promotion:
In addition to understanding health and behavior change, this position will be responsible for one or more of the following processes in health promotion: Health communication and marketing; assessment & evaluation; Technology & Social Media; Student Development and Leadership; Grant writing and grant management; or target populations (i.e. Greeks, athletics and housing).
Qualifications
1. Master's degree in health education, health promotion, public health, community health, health policy, or closely related.*
2. A total of three (3) years (36 months) of work experience in health promotion/wellness.* (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Preferred Quals: Experience in a higher education setting. Experience with one or more areas of physical wellness, social wellness, peer education, or nutrition.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
