Overall Charge to Outreach Coordinator SLTCOP

The Outreach Coordinator serves as an educator and volunteer recruiter for the statewide LTCO Program. The coordinator works to combat abuse and neglect in long-term care facilities through the increase in representatives and reduction of resident isolation. Outreach Coordinator reports to the State LTC Ombudsman.

This is a part-time, temporary Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 grant funded position. The timeline for the project involving the position is 8/1/21-7/31/22. The position is for 99 hours per month at $23.75 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides state-level coordination of volunteer management

  • Revises volunteer curriculum in collaboration with SLTCO Office staff
  • Program promotion – designing recruitment, recognition, and support materials and creating social media posts, advertisements, website content, press releases. Assist Districts with media interviews.
  • Recruit volunteers- Develop a plan for each district to recruit 5% additional . Identify effective recruitment methods and assist District Ombudsmen as needed with implementation of recruitment plans. Examples include: identifying most effective methods for recruitment in the district such as newspaper ads, articles, letters, social media campaigns, community education of civic and community groups, radio/tv appearances and assisting the DO in carrying out these methods.
  • Assists with coordination and attend volunteer recognition in Districts
  • Hosts District Ombudsman volunteer coordination meetings
  • Plans state-level continuing education for Ombudsmen and volunteers
  • Participates in Ombudsman Professional Development/Certification
  • Regularly reviews data and provides detailed and summary reports
  • Track volunteer applications from the SLTCOP web site from assignment to district through certification and program enrollment in the Ombudsman data system.

Other Duties:

  • Collaborate with agency colleagues to ensure seamless service provision and attention to effective and efficient program operations
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned by the SLTCO

Evaluation:

Performance will be measured based upon outcomes determined for each of the above tasks by the SLTCO.



Requirements

Requirements:

  • Be free of conflicts of interest, including (but not limited to) not being employed by a long-term care facility within the last 12 months.
  • Knowledge in the area of volunteer recruitment, training, retention and support
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • LTC Ombudsman certification or the ability to achieve certification.
  • Great organizational, networking, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to professionally represent the agency, handle sensitive information and maintain high levels of confidentiality
  • Ability to meet deadlines and respond in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently within a flexible work structure
  • Reliable transportation as travel and occasional overnight travel is expected.

Additional Qualifications (preferred):

  • A basic understanding of advocacy programs and a desire to advocate for Ombudsman program clients utilizing specific problem-solving techniques of a certified Ombudsman.
  • Previous experience with community-based social services or nonprofit agencies
  • Understanding of the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency service delivery system and state-wide network
  • Experience designing materials for publication
  • Commitment and values in line with the mission of the agency and industry
