Description
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate proficiency in all required skin diving and scuba diving skills and techniques during staff training
- Serve as an instructor/group leader for staff for NAUI Skin Diving Instructor and Rescue Diver courses during staff training
- Teach NAUI Skin Diving and SCUBA Certification courses, and basic SCUBA skills for non-certification classes to campers
- Plan and conduct all required written and water tests for campers and staff
- For students (camper or staff) needing extra time, plan and conduct make-up lectures and water sessions, study sessions and waters skills practice sessions
- Act as Dive Master/Boat Captain for Open Water SCUBA Programs
- Assist with operation of compressor system and filling air tanks as scheduled
- Assist with inventory and repairs of equipment during pre-camp, at the end of each session, and at the end of summer
- Maintain the office space and SCUBA area in good order
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL SEACAMP STAFF:
- Help each participant adjust to other participants, staff, and camp life, and take all necessary steps to ensure health, safety and welfare of all persons (participants, staff, and guests).
- Maintain and submit accurate and complete course outlines, class records, and evaluations for each program.
- Report all requisitions for materials and supplies to appropriate leadership staff member.
- Provide supervision and care of equipment.
- Participate in general planning of program activities.
- Instruct or assist with other program activities as assigned, and supervise participants during meals, dorm and dining hall clean-up, rest hour, free time, evening program, and bedtime as assigned
- If approved, act as a driver for program and general transportation.
- Participate in camp functions and assist with participant supervision as assigned.
- Supervise dorms after evening program, including checking each room for the proper numbers & names of participants, and ensuring participants are quiet after “lights out”.
- Must be able to lead and actively participate in rigorous outdoor learning experiences.
- Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and willingness to work in a leadership capacity.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner that creates a cohesive community environment.
- Make participants aware of Seacamp health and safety regulations and enforce those regulations and policies.
- Uphold and enforce Seacamp operating and conservation policies.
- Actively participate in staff training and post-season clean-up.
- Work within Maintenance, Office, Kitchen, and Hospitality Services as assigned.
- Attend all scheduled meetings.
- Perform any other duties necessary to the operation of Seacamp and the well-being of participants, guests, & staff.
Requirements
- Minimum 19 years of age
- Must hold an active status NAUI Instructor rating, or be willing to complete a crossover course upon employment
- One year significant experience SCUBA diving
- At least 100 logged dives, including deep dives (100ft), night/low visibility dives, and other dives in varying conditions in environments similar to those in the Florida Keys
During staff training all program staff are required to participate and successfully complete:
- American Red Cross (ARC) Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Oxygen Administration
- Seacamp Captain’s Workshop
- NAUI Skin Diving Instructor course and NAUI SCUBA Rescue Diver course (certified divers only)
- Online Florida Safe Boating Course (complete prior to arrival)
- CampSafe Abuse Prevention Training (complete prior to arrival)
- HAZMAT Training for Fill Station Operations (SCUBA staff and Support Staff only)
